Biography

My name is Haylee Schiavo. I am currently a third year college student in Barrett the Honors College at Arizona State University. I am fervently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and a Bachelor of Science in Family and Human Development. I was born and raised in the rolling hills of California near the beautiful Pacific shoreline. Just before I turned thirteen, my family and I relocated to the sunshine state of Colorado. I am a devout Catholic and my religion is the most important aspect of my life.

To help support my passion for the fine arts, I have been a self-employed commercial photographer for roughly four years. This is not the type of photography that I intend on making a full-time career with, however, it provides financial aid in these few years of college. My real work revolves around fine art photography, which is a critical way of capturing the world with a camera.

In the past year, I was blessed enough to attend a ten-week long class with Joanna B. Pinneo, a well-known photographer for National Geographic. In 2011, her photograph, “A Tuareg family gently sleeps,” was dubbed one of the fifty best images of National Geographic. To work intimately with her was quite an honor. My ultimate career goals are to photograph for National Geographic and Life Magazine.

My primary career goals revolve around a central desire to help children of domestic violence. In this blog, you can expect to read posts that often touch on this issue, as well as high conflict families and mental disorders. You may also expect to find a written and photographic illustration of my opinions in each post. All photographs are taken by me, unless otherwise specified.

Enjoy and please contact me if you have any questions or comments.
